We are very excited to be writing with the news that the University of Leicester has placed 21st in The Times higher education impact ratings, assessing universities against the United Nations’ sustainable development goals. The university ranked 21st overall, out of 769 Universities from 85 countries - an amazing achievement! On top of this, the University of Leicester ranked in 5th place overall in the UK, and also came in at first place for Global Goal 15 - Life on Land. We are very happy with this as Goal 15 is one that we at Plan-It Change are committed to working on. We want to say a huge well done to everyone who worked to make this possible! We look forward to continuing the good work in the future to make our university even more sustainable and to have a positive impact on the world around us!
So what are these goals? The United Nations’ sustainable development goals are a set of goals created by the UN in an effort to obtain a more sustainable and better future for all. As a society, we have chosen to focus on the 6 goals we feel are most relevant to us at the moment; Goal 2- Zero Hunger; Goal 7- Affordable and Clean Energy; Goal 11- Sustainable Cities and Communities; Goal 12- Responsible Consumption and Production; Goal 13- Climate Action; Goal 15 - Life on Land (as stated before, University of Leicester placed first place in the global ranking for Global Goal 15. The University has 25 modules which have intended learning outcomes directly related towards Global Goal 15!). To find out more about these goals, including why and how we are supporting them, head to the Global Goals section of our website.
This is an amazing achievement, as as a society we are incredibly excited to work towards making our university even more sustainable in the future!
